John 4:1-30

In this scripture we meet a woman who has counted herself out, not believing that she was even worth interaction with anyone. People around her felt that she was not worthy because of her poor choices in life.   She was carrying all of her broken history in her soul, heart and mind.

For this message, we label her an “emotional packrat.” Much like hoarders who keep things that they will never use again, an emotional packrat stores up bitterness, anger, pain, hostility, negativity, self-defeat, thus claiming most of the available space in heart, soul and mind.

You become like a 3-legged chair leaning against a wall. You look usable until someone sits down and you break apart.

The woman at the well was packing alienation, judgment of others, pain, hurt, loss of self-confidence, and a feeling of no value.  When she met JESUS everything changed, and she was freed from her past, as the Word promises.  No one who truly meets Jesus remains the same.  When you meet Jesus trust HIM and leave the “old stuff” that was weighing you down behind.   You’ve become a “new creature” and old things have passed away. (2 Corinthians 5:17)

Unpack the old and make room for God’s deliverance and blessings.  Be not entangled with your past!
