If you had a million dollars, what would you do with it?

Do you actually need to wait to have a million dollars to give the best gift?  There are so many if-then thoughts that we have during the holiday season.  Thanks be to God that we do not need to wait for the "If" when it comes to the best of giving.

I am reminded of the deeply spirit-filled concerts that our church rendered each Christmas in collaboration with another local church. I was a pre-teen when this began.  We spent hours each week during the month of December, practicing the acapella renditions of Christmas Songs for the annual celebration.  During the service we held "live" candles, trying hard not to burn the hair of the person in front of us. The perfect harmony drifted across the trees and through the wind from those country churches.  One song "The Little Drummer Boy" taught me as a young child that I could give to Jesus without the need to borrow money from my parents.  The Little Drummer Boy saw others giving their "finest gifts" to the Baby Jesus, yet he was saddened because he did not have money to buy a gift for the baby.  As the story is told through the song, he finally decided to give of his God-Given talent back to the Baby Jesus.  What a perfect gift.

Also as a child in elementary school, I learned one verse of a poem written by Christina Rossetti. It's simple yet powerful.

"What can I give Him, poor as I am; If I were a shepherd, I would bring a lamb;

If I were a Wise Man, I would do my part; Yet what I can I give Him: give my heart." 

Another perfect gift.

One gift costs nothing monetarily yet it means all!

Give Him your heart!
